Birthdays 2001

Larry's Birthday

This year the new moon feel abound October 13 which made it the perfect weekend to go camping. I packed up my truck with all of the things we need to go camping. Sally, Randy and David drove separately because we knew that Randy wouldn't want to spend more than a day camping, but that I might want to stay a bit longer. Randy drove part of the way to Red Rocks because she needed to spend more hours behind the wheel to get her learner's permit.. We arrived a bit late and I wanted get my telescope set up before it go too dark so will I got the telescope ready Randy and David set up the ten and Sally got our food ready. Sally and I stayed up quite late watching the stars, but David and Randy turned in fairly early. It was a warm night and one of the better nights that we had for viewing this year. Overall, a very nice birthday. The night before, Sally and I celebrated privately at home. Sally had gotten filet mignons from Omaha Steaks and had baked a German chocolate cake for me, so they had a nice private and tasty celebration.

Randy's Birthday

Randy's birthday is only two days after mine, but we celebrated it the following weekend by taking her and two of her friends out to dinner.Randy's then-boyfriend David (pictured at right, and they're still good friends) took her out to Macaroni Grill earlier for their own celebration and presented her with a tanzanite ring. Her other friend Cassie is pictured on the right. The celebration with friends and family took place at Cha Cha Cha Restaurant in Encino, which is a very casual but nice Jamaican restaurant. It was her sweet 16, and while it's taken a little while, it's shaping up to be a very eventful year for her. Sally wishes for the life of her that she could remember what she gave her for presents.

Sally's Birthday

Sally's birthday is early in December. Sally's birthday was pretty simple this year. Her laptop computer died and we had decided that she would get a new one as a combined Birthday/Christmas gift, but she didn't get the computer until Christmas so there were no big presents. Not that she found this especially bothersome--she had decided she would prefer the computer to be presented to her on Christmas as opposed to her birthday. She did, however, have a delightful day. Her friend and working partner in crime Melodie had presented her with enough candles to burn down most of the Los Angeles area, and she received many phone calls and e-cards from friends. Her student in med school, Nghi, presented her with a pair of Hello Kitty gloves, which she has found very useful. Larry and Randy took her to Pastamichi's for a lovely Italian dinner. No cake--she's not a cake person. A few days later, her biochem PhD student, Rob, gave her the Deluxe Edition of 'Dr. Strangelove' on DVD. It's her all time favorite movie. She obviously had a terrific birthday, despite the fact that she was having a Bad Hair Day.
