Hawaii Vacation 2000
Last year's trip to Hawaii was such a success that we decided to visit Hawaii
again this year. Last year we went to Maui, so this year we decided to visit
Kauai and Oahu. We left on Sunday August 20 and returned Sunday the 28th.
We flew to Maui where we stopped briefly, then to Oahu where we had to change
planes and then on to Kauai. In Kauai we stayed at the Kauai Coconut Beach
Resort on the east side of the Island between Lihue and Kapaa. We left Kauai
on Thursday morning and flew to Oahu. We stayed at Waikiki at the Outrigger
Hotel which is right on the Beach.

In
Kauai we stayed at the Kauai Coconut Beach Resort on the east side of
the Island between Lihue and Kapaa. The roof faced the courtyard which
was actually quite pretty and was perhaps a better view than the ocean

Last
year Randy and I took a helicopter ride over Maui and we both enjoyed
it a lot. The ride is somewhat expensive but it is a really good way
to see a lot of the island. There are a number of places in Kauai that
you can only see from the air.

On
the day before we left Kauai I went on a drive to look at some of the
waterfalls. I liked it so much that I took Randy and Sally to see the
falls before we left the next day.

The
beach near the hotel was very nice, although away from the hotel some
of the beaches were a bit rock. While waiting for the helicopter ride
to start Randy and I looked at a book about the beaches of Kauai. Both
Randy and I thought that the pictures of the Beach at Lydgate parked
looked nice so we stopped at the beach on the way back from the helicopter
ride. The Lydgate beach is a good beach to take young children since
there is a breakwater that keeps out big waves and prevents kids from
straying too far.

We
stayed at the Outrigger hotel on Waikiki. We had a very large room and
even though the room was listed as having a street view (much cheaper)
we actually had a nice view of the ocean from our balcony.

One
of the reasons why Waikiki is so popular is that it has great beaches.

Sally
and I took a Sunset sail on a catermaran one night while staying at
Waikiki

All
of these pictures were taken with a disposable underwater camera that
Sally bought me. The camera was rated to a depth of 17 feet. We went
down to a depth of 35 feet for about a half hour. The camera did just
fine.
