I
have a book on hiking trails in southern California. The hike at Wildwood Canyon
intrigued me because 1) it is close to where I work and 2) it features a waterfall.
A couple of days ago Emiko sent me e-mail and asked me if I wanted to go hiking
to work of the Thanksgiving turkey. This seemed like a good opportunity to check
out Wildwood. Wildwood is very nice and the day was perfect for hiking. When
I arrived at the parking lot there was a red-tailed hawk soaring directly over
my head. It didn't move its wings at all, it just glided on the air. A short
while later Emiko arrived and we walked up the trail towards the waterfall.
The following pictures are presented in the order they were taken
After
a couple of weeks of cold temperatures (down to about 55 - brrr) we finally
returned to a more pleasant Southern California winter with temperatures in
the mid 60's. It was a beautiful day and Sally felt that it would be wasted
to spend it indoors. Sally thought about taking the medium large brown dog for
a walk and I suggested that we go hiking in the mountains and bring the dog
along.
The dog was more than excited when she saw the leash and it took us a few minutes
to subdue her before we could actually get the leash on. I brought my new Kodak
3200 digital camera along to take some pictures and to see how it compared to
the old digital camera. The dog was pretty quite on the ride up to Wildwood
which is about 50 minutes from our home. There were a lot of people at the park,
many with dogs. Sally and I walked down to Paradise Falls, and then took the
trail that goes up above the falls. We stopped at a picnic area along the river
and allowed the medium large brown dog to play in the stream.
These
are pictures that I took on a hike with Sally to Wildwood. We took essentially
the same route that we had hiked previously, although this time we walked a
bit further and visited the Indian Cave. Note that we did not take the medium
large brown dog with us on this trip. It was a hot day and we were afraid that
the dog would get overheated since the dog needs a lot of water. As it turned
out Sally got a little overheated and she stopped at the inner parking lot and
I went back to get the truck to pick her up. By this time I had picked up yet
another digital camera, a Cannon A20. On the first trip I used my Largan camera
which is capable of a maximum resolution of 640x480. The Kodak camera has a
maximum resolution of 1280 x 980 resolution and the Cannon has a resolution
of 1600x1200. Further, the Cannon has a 3x optical zoom, the Kodak only has
a 2x digital zoom and the Largan has a fixed lens with no zoom.
The
pictures here were taken on Jan 26. It was a very nice day, warm enough to not
need a jacket, but cool enough to want a long sleeved shirt. This time Sally
and I decided to take a different trail and went up the (I believe) Santa Rosa
trail. This trail heads up the hills to the north. The trail is basically a
switchback climbing up the hills. Sally and I hiked to the top of the hill and
then hiked down the other side.
