On Saturday, early into the Labor day weekend our air conditioner stopped working. I had gone to work to get caught up on things and when I got home the house was hot. This isn't unusual since Sally doesn't like air conditioning all that much. The AC was on, and I assumed that it had just be turned on and that soon the house would cool. After a while I noticed that the house wasn't getting any cooler and checked on the AC unit. I found it wasn't running at all. First I checked the circuit breakers but they were fine. I then tried calling the people who had installed the AC unit, but of course, they were enjoying their Labor Day weekend. It turned out that this was the hottest weekend of the summer, getting up to 107. We had a window air conditioner in the garage and I installed it in my bedroom since that room has a tv and vcr. Randy even camped out in our bedroom it was so hot at night. On Saturday night we went out to eat because we didn't want to heat up the house by cooking dinner. That night I promised Randy that I would take her to the movies on Sunday so she wouldn't have to sit in a hot house all day. While we were out at dinner, Tom called but I didn't call him back until Sunday. When I called Tom back I told him about our air conditioner and he said that his AC was working fine and that he had a pool if we wanted to come over. I told him that I had promised Randy that I would take her to the movies, but when Randy overheard the word pool she suggested that we got to Tom's. Sally brought some chicken, ribs and barbecue sauce and by the time we arrived at the Chappell's Tom had gone out and bought a bunch of drinks and snacks. I think that some of the best times I've had have been impromptu parties and this was one of the best Labor Day weekends in years
