San Diego September 2006

Balboa Park

My sister Nancy and brother-in-law Ken were traveling to a San Diego so Ken could buy a custom guitar. I decided to take the day off and drive down to San Diego and meet up with my sister while Ken went to look at guitars. When Ken tried to drive to the guitar shop they encountered a bad traffic jam so Ken decided to go to the guitar shop the following day. As a result I got to spend the day with both Nancy and Ken.

San Diego Art Museum

I arrived in San Diego before Ken and Nancy. I had tried to call them on their cell phone but got a very cryptic message saying something about the service not being available to me. The message made it sound as if I was unable to reach them because my service contract didn't allow it but it really just meant that they were currently unreachable. I decided that I would spend an hour at the art museum and then check to see if I could find them. As it turned out the museum was free that day. It wasn't a large museum and unfortunately many of the pieces that I was most interested in seeing were in storage at the time. Still, there were some painting by Margritte, Renoir and El Greco that I liked. Later, when Ken and Nancy arrived we went back to the museum so I was able to see it at a more leisurely pace.

Japanese Tea Garden

The Japanese Tea Garden was also free the day we went. There was a small bonsai Garden and a koi pond.

Rose and Cactus Garden

Balboa Park has a very nice Rose Garden and Cactus Garden.

San Diego Museum of Man

We also visited another museum at Balboa Park which was free the day we went. It had several exhibits including furniture, jewelry and masks. I think that Ken and Nancy liked this museum a lot more than I did. Ken liked the earrings that they had on display. I like the furniture exhibit.
